All eyes on the World Championships


University of Eldoret stadium was full of action during the Uasin Gishu County track and field championships on Saturday where the world cross country champion Agnes Tirop showed her powers to win the women’s 1500m.

After finishing fourth in the recent Athletics Kenya meeting in Kipchoge stadium in Eldoret, Jebet affirmed her intent to this year’s selection to secure herself a place in the forthcoming regional championships 
Top three athletes in the middle distance qualified to the regional athletics championships to be held in university of Eldoret early next month. A competition which culminates into team tickets for the for the National athletics championships In Nairobi 
The women’s 1500m offered a competitive and thrilling battle, Tirop clocked 4:19.9 minutes, beating Ivy Kiyeng 4:22.9 to the second position.

“After that poor performance in Kipchoge, I am very much focused to make the national team” said Tirop who won the world cross country title in Guiyang China early this year. 

Mellah Mishuku 4:39.6 minutes finished second while Francine Nyonsaba 4:41. Minutes came third.

In men’s category, Zebulon Chumba came first in men’s 1500m in a time of 3:46.8 minutes, Jarred Vincent 3:47.4 minutes was defeated to second position and Nicholas Kipchumba 3:48.6 minutes finished in number three. In 800m women Jerono Koech was position one in a time of 2:11.8 minutes followed be Rebeca Jepkemboi 2:12.3 minutes with Vivian Jepkemei 2:12.6 minutes following in third place. On the other hand, Sammy Kirongo 1:48.3 minutes lead the squad of Thomas Kiplagat 1:51.0 minutes and Joel Keter 1:51.1 minutes to win the race in style. In 200m women marry Tabalia clocked 25.56 Shieys Jepkosgey 25.96 and Lavender Amutai 26.38 sec claimed the top three positions. While in men Musa Chumba clocked 21.6 sec, Jacob Sijalas 21.7sec and Martin Koech 21.9 finished top three respectively in 200m.
